30/30 challenge – day 11

Continuing my attempt to create a new piece of art every day for 30 days.

Today’s prompt was “Make your last ever artwork”. This immediately felt way too momentous to attempt. I decided instead that at least I could make today be more based on constructivist aesthetics so if for some reason this is my last ever artwork, at least it will be in keeping with my Study Statement!

I also thought that if it were my last artwork, I would likely use my usual method of starting from a centre and moving a pattern outwards, so here was the end result:

It has a constructivist feel to it with the blocky shapes and lines mixed with some curves and pattern. If I had more time i would have continued the pattern further since I had to stop where I got to so I could submit the piece in time. (I uploaded it to the Artquest site with only 3 minutes to spare!)

Even though I stopped sooner than I might otherwise have done, I still like the end result. There is a sense of movement and stillness at the same time somehow. It reminds me of the insides of a watch, or some kind of mechanical dial.

I purposely made the triangles all point outwards to enhance the effect of the shapes and pattern moving outwards from the centre.

I think I could make a larger version of this but I think I would make it more complicated with more shapes, more lines, more curves, and more intricacy. It would take a long time but I think it would be a very enjoyable process. It would definitely be one where I could lose hours of time without noticing.

Hmm I will mentally add this one to the growing list of projects I want to do!!
