30/30 challenge – day 21

Continuing my foolhardy challenge to create 30 works of art in 30 days.

Since I’ve been doing so many circles recently I wanted to do something different. I didn’t have an immediate plan for this piece but decided to work from the outside in, which is very unusual for me since I almost always work from the centre outwards.

I started creating the rectangular shapes inside of each other at varying distance from the previous one. I didn’t want it to be evenly spaced or else it would have just looked like a hotel corridor.

It was then a case of colouring in every other section with my trusty Faber Castell Pitt artist pen brush and ta da! I less then an hour I had the piece for this day.

The result is simple but effective. The design draws your eyes to the centre whilst the differing widths mean that you’re not quite sure what to focus on.

I wonder if this piece would work in a larger scale with potentially hundreds of rectangles. Perhaps another one to add to the list of potential pieces to do in a larger size.
