Continuing my quest of creating a new piece of art every day for thirty days…
The prompt for day 22 was “Give in to your responsibilities” which I already have to do every day anyway, so I thought I would do something a little different.
Most of my pieces have distinct shapes (circle, square, rectangle), straight lines, and a constructivist angle. Usually I think about and plan ahead for what I want to make, usually sketching in pencil before committing to the ink pen.
I decided for this day to create something more fluid. To let my pen do its own thing without being as structured as usual. Here is the result:

Admittedly it took a hit of practice! My first attempt at these freeform petals (?) did not go as planned since I got the starting points wrong and the shapes didn’t work together. On my second attempt it went more smoothly although I think I could have made a better one if I’d gone for a third attempt.
Regardless I like the outcome. I like how the shapes have an implied starting and ending point, even if they don’t all follow the same rules.
I like the movement and fluidity of this piece. I found the process of making it very soothing, and the end result is satisfying.
Is it one that I would make in a larger size? Hmm probably not at present but then again I might do it just for the pleasing process of making it.
