Still creating new art every day for thirty days…
The prompt for this day was “Use someone’s 30works30days post as inspiration” which I completely ignored since I already had an idea.
The plan in my head for this piece seemed simple enough, but the reality was far different. And the outcome resembled something completely unexpected.
I wanted to return to my patterns and create something circular with an off-centre starting point, including many smaller shapes around the centre.
It started out innocently enough but I soon realised that it was going to take a lot longer than expected! Luckily I had a few zoom calls for work that day where I didn’t have to have the camera on, so I worked on this piece during those calls (whilst still fully participating I promise!)
When my eldest son came home from school, the piece was about half finished and he asked if I was drawing the Millennium Falcon. I looked at him quizzically then looked back at the piece. Oh my goodness he was right! It was looking very space-age despite that not being the intention. I assured myself that it was just because it wasn’t finished yet.
Later that evening when it was finished I thought it doesn’t look like the Millennium Falcon anymore but it did still look like something from a spaceship.

My son came back in and said that now it looks like the Death Star!! Oh no I hadn’t planned on channelling Star Wars on this day but apparently I had.
Even so, I actually really like this piece and I enjoyed making it although it took about three hours. I would actually consider making a larger version but I’d need to set aside a lot of time for it. Perhaps the next one will feature Yoda.
May the force be with you.
