The second last day of my Artquest challenge to create a new artwork every day for thirty days.
I was skiing in Italy on this day and it was snowing beautiful big fat chunky snowflakes that landed on my arms and hands. The shapes were so incredible. I tried to get some photos which was challenging since the snowflakes melted quite quickly.

I loved how intricate each one was with their incredible mirrored patterns on six “arms.” My partner suggested that I do a snowflake for my artwork today and I had to agree it was like the answer was literally falling on top of me!
So at the end of a great day of skiing on fresh powder snow I started to create this snowflake:
I decided to still use straight lines and circles, but follow the established snowflake pattern on six arms. It was a really enjoyable process to build the snowflake from the centre outwards.

The resulting image is very pleasing but I did make a big mistake in the snowflake pattern. I realised afterwards that snowflakes don’t usually have perpendicular lines coming outwards, they are shaky angled like chevrons.
So the sections at the outer ends of the snowflake don’t follow the established pattern but in a way I don’t mind. It’s a constructivist snowflake!!
