Recently I was fortunate to spend a few days in Dorset with family. It was lovely and sunny, if a bit windy. Inspired by a previous Tuesday session where we talked about consciously noticing our surroundings, I decided one morning to go for a walk and see what patterns I could find.

A lovely pattern in something so ordinary.

I liked here how the gravel, the wall, and the pavement created a pattern of three textures.

Ok so this is just a bin shed but the geometric pattern of the wood with the surprising curve at the top, creates an unexpected shape.

The counter at a local vegan coffee shop.

Easter decorations with a lovely crisp pattern to the folding.

And in yellow!

Contrasting patterns on an upholstered chair.

This was my n the side of a surf shop.

Can’t forget the patterns in nature!

Really interesting pattern on the side of a flower delivery van.

I’m not thinking about taking up basket weaving but if I did, this might something I’d try.

Safety gate on a shop.

This was in the corner of a greeting card in a flower shop. I totally love it. It speaks to my aesthetics so much. There is the central point from which the pattern emerges, it has a circular pattern mixed with straight lines, and it’s monochrome. I may try to emulate this in a new work.

Nature has some of the oat beautiful patterns.

A somewhat haphazard pattern of bricks.

Stepping on patterns every day

This is the sleeve of a men’s shirt. I like the contrasting patterns in monochrome.
This was a rewarding experience to purposefully seek out patterns that taught my eye as I walked. I think I’ll do some more pattern walks in the future.
